Reminiscing at the Holidays (Favorite Hostess Gift Ever)

This is my 15th year throwing my annual Holiday Party. It's always on the same weekend each December. Each year as I prep for it I rip apart my house and remember my year, my friends and all of my wishes and dreams for my family, friends and self.

Last year, I received my favorite hostess gift ever! It was loose tea and loose tea bags!! I'll never forget the gift or the guest who brought it. I'm not a big written thank you person ( another blog post) yet, I had to write a note to this friend and tell her how special this was.

Not only was it a thoughtful gift for a hostess to enjoy the day after the party--it was a perfect gift for me! I love loose tea. I love strong tea, 'Irish coffee' as my grandmother used to call it (slight brogue and all). Although I didn't see this grandmother often she was the sewer in my family and instilled her love of handwork to me. My other grandmother was the fashion lover. She supported and encouraged me from the earliest age to pursue my love of color, fashion and art. Both of my grandmothers had tea everyday!

So this seemingly simple gift was actually so touching and memorable that I think of it, and my friend who gave it to me, every single day when I open my tea cabinet!

Made in the USA: What That Means To Me

Made in the USA and what it means to me.

I am a huge proponent of the global economy--it isn't going anywhere and much good has and will come of it for undeveloped countries and technology. In relation to mass production I'm not a fan.

When I spend my money I should be buying a quality product and the cost savings of the mass production process should be passed on and evident to me--the consumer. Mass production is by in large a product of big business with a brand attached to it. Over the last 20 years we have all seen prices rise and quality plummet. As a consumer I see no difference in a mass produced item in a discount store to many brand name items. The price is higher with the brand but the quality is often sub-par or the same as other no-names. I feel cheated as a consumer.

All to often I have no idea what I'm buying, what it is made of or really consists of. As I looked around my house this weekend I was surprised to see that most ( if not all) of the beauty products that I use are made AND distributed it in the USA. I had no idea!

I will buy a quality product from anywhere in the world. I will buy 'homemade' from anywhere in the world. But I think I've become anti 'big-business'. As I see their profits rise, quality decline and, my purchasing dollars squeezed I started to crave individuality!

I hope you enjoy your bag! You will not see my bags coming and going, you will love to have them on your wrist or arm!!

Enjoy & Thank you for stopping by!

Why handbags?

katbags are for fabric lovers! The fabrics are beautiful and have a gorgeous hand. I want my senses firing! My bags are the opposite of mass produced bags. The cost is reflective of the quality products put into each bag. My bags are unique and special. Most importantly you will not see my bags coming and going. My purses and totes are to be used everyday whether wearing jeans or are dressed-up. They are made to make a statement that is bold and tasteful. The wristlet, tote and purses are a sensory experience whether being carried on your arm or opening the bag to get your wallet. The bags are substantial yet are designed to feel weightless on your arm.

How it all began...I needed to replace my 'black bag', about 15 years after it should've been retired! Each time I had a special occasion to attend I would go out and look for a replacement. I'd spend money on a bag I hated, sheepishly use it for the event and then throw it in my closet. With each invitation the guilt would return even thinking of going out to look for another bag when I had a closet full of cast-a-ways.

So, I ripped down a fabric bulletin board of my mine, pulled, tucked and pinched it--and-- then decided it needed to be beaded-- and-- then that it needed to be hand sewn to keep its hand-- 14 hrs later I was off to my event. I was asked where I got it, I got some orders, then went to another wedding and more orders and...well, here I am in business, creating bags that I love for day and night, special events, trips to the city and whatever need I have next!

Thank you for reading and visiting this blog. I know that you will enjoy the versatility and beauty of my bags, will be proud to carry it and amazed by the compliments--it's an experience you don't get carrying a designer bag...you will see...

Come back often, I've just purchased my Fall fabrics...but I'm not done with Summer yet!!!
