South Street Seaport Museum, NYC Commissioned bag for the Normandie Exhibit 2/23-Summer 2010

This bag is a homage to early 19th century Art Deco fashion designer Fortuny, the creator of the Fortuny pleat, Fashion Illustrator Erte's Letter L, the bag's shape is indicative of the famous Normandie poster. This bag is my interpretation of the Hermes bag that was designed and made for the original commissioning of the SS Normandie in 1936. The interior of this ship was a true Art Deco masterpiece. The ocean liner sailed until 1942 and burned while being refit to be a military vessel.

Katbag at the GRAMMYS

Grammy Nominee Clausia Mussen, of the Brady Rymer Band, wore a custom Katbag at the 2009 Grammys. The exterior of the bag is made of a Ralph Lauren Heavyweight Silk Charmeuse, hand beading adorned the outside gather using jet and gunmetal beads, the gather is hand stitched. The inside is a Ralph Lauren Silk/Cotton Crushed Velvet with Gray/Green Hand-Dyed Ribbon, spot hand beading in metallic gunmetal adorned the upper interior of the bag. The beading was done to catch the flashes on the red carpet. All handfinished.

Reminiscing at the Holidays (Favorite Hostess Gift Ever)

This is my 15th year throwing my annual Holiday Party. It's always on the same weekend each December. Each year as I prep for it I rip apart my house and remember my year, my friends and all of my wishes and dreams for my family, friends and self.

Last year, I received my favorite hostess gift ever! It was loose tea and loose tea bags!! I'll never forget the gift or the guest who brought it. I'm not a big written thank you person ( another blog post) yet, I had to write a note to this friend and tell her how special this was.

Not only was it a thoughtful gift for a hostess to enjoy the day after the party--it was a perfect gift for me! I love loose tea. I love strong tea, 'Irish coffee' as my grandmother used to call it (slight brogue and all). Although I didn't see this grandmother often she was the sewer in my family and instilled her love of handwork to me. My other grandmother was the fashion lover. She supported and encouraged me from the earliest age to pursue my love of color, fashion and art. Both of my grandmothers had tea everyday!

So this seemingly simple gift was actually so touching and memorable that I think of it, and my friend who gave it to me, every single day when I open my tea cabinet!
