This bag is a homage to early 19th century Art Deco fashion designer Fortuny, the creator of the Fortuny pleat, Fashion Illustrator Erte's Letter L, the bag's shape is indicative of the famous Normandie poster. This bag is my interpretation of the Hermes bag that was designed and made for the original commissioning of the SS Normandie in 1936. The interior of this ship was a true Art Deco masterpiece. The ocean liner sailed until 1942 and burned while being refit to be a military vessel.
Please visit the South Street Seaport Museum at 12 Fulton Street in New York City to see the exhibit along with this bag, my Art Deco bag, along with other bags and small accessories created for their store, on sale now.
